I spend most of my time translating financial texts from English and French into Dutch: from bulky prospectuses to pithy market commentaries, succinct fund reviews and opinion articles on the finesses of derivatives and such like. My end clients are typically financial institutions and asset managers, but I also enjoy getting to grips with industry-specific terminology for an annual report when a client is not active in the financial industry.
I’m a qualified translator, rather than a trained economist or commercial engineer. I have built up my knowledge and experience by revising a large body of financial translations by established translators, by reading a great deal and by looking things up – a lot. I’ve read investment theory courses, scoured the websites of fund managers for terminology and I try to stay up to speed with the financial and economic news.
